This film recounts the Battle of Verdun , which took place in 1916 during the First World War . It is as much a documentary as a work of fiction.

It consists of three acts called Visions . The first, The Force , describes the forces. The second, Hell , describes the German attacks and the last, Destiny , describes the response of the French troops.
